Title
40th Anniversary Dinner and Technical Conference for the IOA tonight

Description

Edinburgh Napier University will tonight, Thursday 13 November 13, host the 40th Anniversary Dinner and Technical Conference for the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) to celebrate acoustics in Scotland.

The university was chosen by the IOA Scottish branch to host the dinner due to our celebrations of 400 years of John Napier and the strong links with logarithms used every day by acousticians, noise and vibration experts globally to assess decibel levels. The dinner is being organised by the University’s Building Performance Centre.

Prior to the event in the Rivers Suite at Craiglockhart we will also be hosting a special research conference where several presentations will be given, including:

Scottish Wind Farms: case study review of noise impacts of onshore wind farms – progress report
Speaker: Andrew Bullmore, Hoarelea Acoustics

Soundscape design for the built environment
Speaker: Dr Laurent Galbrun, Heriot-Watt University

Future global developments in sound insulation, classification systems and low frequency issues.
Speaker: Prof Sean Smith – Edinburgh Napier University

During the dinner the keynote speech will be delivered by Professor Robin Mackenzie (former Vice-Principal of Edinburgh Napier University) and former winner of the prestigious Tyndall Medal in Acoustics on the developments by Scottish acousticians and the impact of their work in Scotland, UK and globally.
