Google Chrome update and University websites

Description

Google Chrome update and University websites

Information Services is aware that the latest version of Google Chrome (version 62) released from 17 October 2017 onwards, will impact some University websites.

The update introduces a change in settings which requires that websites containing data input fields (including search functionality) should be served securely. This means that any page that allow users to enter data that is served via http (rather than https) will receive a warning that the page is not secure.

You should not be concerned if you receive this message, the websites can still be accessed in the same way as they could before the upgrade.

Information Services is working to change all University websites to be delivered by https however there will be a transition period as this work is carried out. In the meantime you may notice when inputting data that web pages served over http will display a "not secure" message in the browser bar. Additionally any http page viewed in "Incognito" mode will be flagged as not secure.

Further information about the update can be found here
