Full Story

A textbook co-written by Professor Alistair McCleery of SACI has now been translated into Spanish.

Una introducción a la historia del libro has been issued by Editorial Paidos, based in Argentina, Barcelona and Mexico, and joins recent Italian and Chinese translations in bringing this study of key trends in print culture to a wider audience. The book is currently being translated into Portugese by a Brazilian publisher and its UK publisher, Routledge, has great hopes that it will also appear in Russian.

Professor McCleery, pictured above with his co-author, Professor David Finkelstein, Dean of Humanities at Dundee University, noted: “We are extremely pleased that our book is now available in this translation. Spanish is the third most-used language in the world and this innovative work now becomes available to a much wider readership beyond its English and Chinese versions."

An Introduction to Book History, first issued by Routledge in 2005 and published in a 2nd revised edition in 2013, was the first study of its kind of general trends in the development and understanding of book history. It is now a set text in over twenty-five degree courses in seven English-speaking countries. Professors McCleery and Finkelstein have also co-written the chapter on 'Publishing 1914-2000' for the forthcoming Cambridge History of the Book Volume 7, while Professor McCleery has written the chapter on Publishing for the forthcoming Cambridge Companion to the Book.
