Title
Lecturer selected to represent the Scottish Green Party

Summary
Lecturer in the School of Life, Sport and Social Sciences to represent the Party on the Smith Commission

Full Story

Maggie Chapman, a lecturer in the School of Life, Sport and Social Sciences, has been selected as one of two Scottish Greens to represent the Party on the Smith Commission into further devolution for Scotland, headed up by Lord Smith of Kelvin.

Maggie, who is co-convener of the Scottish Greens alongside Patrick Harvie, and also a councillor in Edinburgh said: “I am honoured to have been selected to contribute to this Commission. Patrick and I will engage constructively with the process in the hope that it will help to shape a better future for Scotland. We will be arguing for the devolution of genuine economic powers; Scotland needs economic policies that are right for our own circumstances.”

She added: “I am also very concerned that there seems to be limited opportunity for public engagement, and I will do what I can to enable more meaningful participation from all those interested in shaping Scotland’s future. We must ensure we harness the enthusiasm and energy of the referendum campaign on both sides, and build a truly participative movement for change.”
