Dr Fonzone, Lecturer from our School of Engineering & Built Environment was invited to visit Kyoto University between the 22 and 26 September to start a collaboration with local researchers on a project concerning transit fare models.
The project aims to understand how public transport passengers decide their routes when a complex fare system (like the
London tube zone-based fare system) is adopted in the network. This knowledge will then be implemented in assignment models able to predict passenger flows in transport networks with frequent services, like those which are normally in operation in medium and large cities.
The Japanese team includes Professor Jan-Dirk Schmöcker (Kyoto University), Professor Fumitaka Kurauchi (Gifu University) and Professor Daisuke Fukuda (Tokyo University).
