Full Story

The next instalment of the University’s Creative Lecture Series will welcome Glasgow photographer Sarah Amy Fishlock.

Working mainly with lens-based media, found images and publications, Sarah’s photography explores the relationship between the individual and wider social, historical and political realities. It also looks at the tension between cultural and familial identity as well as the problematic nature of memory.

Notable projects include Middlemen, a portrait of three Iraqi former British Armed Forces workers who have now resettled in Glasgow and Amye & Ahren, an insight into a family living with autism. Her project Five Lands, which documents the area of north-west Italy of which her maternal grandparents’ families moved to Scotland from in the first decades of the 20th century, was recently exhibited at The Lighthouse in Glasgow.

Sarah is also editor of Goose Flesh, a photography zine featuring the work of artists from, living in and connected to Glasgow. She was artist in residence at the city’s Citizens Theatre in 2013/14.

Her work has been featured by Der Grief, BBC News In Pictures and FOTO8 as well as being exhibited at venues throughout the world including the Calumet Gallery in New York, the British Council Gallery in Delhi and the Consul’Art in Marseille. Her work has also featured in various UK exhibitions including showcases within the Scottish Parliament, the V&A in London and Glasgow Women’s Library.
