AN Edinburgh Napier research team has won the best paper award at a leading international conference.
PhD student Niaz Gharavi, lecturer Dr. Johnson Zhang and former research fellow at the Centre for Timber Engineering, Professor Yanjun Xie, were honoured at the 19th International Conference on Wood Science and Engineering at Osaka in Japan.
Their research focused on improving the torsion test method widely used to determine the mechanical properties of timber beams and will help provide better testing technology for industry.
It was funded by the Lawrence Ho Research Fund and the 50th Anniversary PhD Studentship scheme, which is supporting 25 university research students via fully-funded scholarships.
The research will now be published in an academic journal.
