Property & Facilities have been successful in securing £2 million of funding under the Priority Works Programme to enable further refurbishment of the University estate, predominately at Merchiston Campus. This work is being planned for summer 2013.
By far the largest project will be a window replacement project with a budget of £1 million. It is not envisaged that all windows in the campus shall be replaced within this budget but a priority replacement programme is being currently agreed.
Other planned projects will concentrate on enhancing the student experience, internal environment improvements and infrastructure, service resilience and energy efficiency. Over the summer of 2013 a number of new projects will be on site through a planned programme of works. These will include:
- internal upgrades to teaching, social and circulation space
- service upgrades to heating, ventilation, water and electrical systems
- fire protection work
- external building fabric repairs
Now funding levels are known the detailed planning process is underway to refine the scope and specification for each project to maximise the benefit of the allocations. Property & Facilities will be engaging with stakeholders as part of this process to prioritise the areas being considered and as each project advances progress will be communicated.
