Update on the Estate Strategy

Description

Director of Property & Facilities Eric Munro on plans for this summer and beyond

In April 2017, the Finance & Property Committee approved an Estate Strategy Implementation Programme to 2025, consisting of the following:

  • To extend our Sighthill Campus to house a purpose built School of Engineering & the Built Environment (SEBE) by 2022.

  • SEBE will only move once the Sighthill expansion is complete, at which point Merchiston Campus will be refurbished as a hub for computing and creative industries.

  • No staff will move to the Stones buildings at the Gyle.

  • A feasibility exercise to explore the expansion of our Craiglockhart Campus to include conference, teaching, exhibition and archive space will get underway shortly.
Summer moves 2017

Timetabling at Merchiston has become increasingly difficult due to the increase in courses and student numbers on campus. During the summer of 2017, 85 professional services staff will move from Merchiston to Sighthill and create up to nine teaching rooms for a total of 330 students. The new spaces will include:
  • a larger games laboratory on D floor;

  • a new training facility and debrief space for the Cyber Academy;

  • a five active learning spaces with capacities of between 60-80.

  • You can read more about who is moving and when on the Estate Strategy intranet pages.
