Leadership Actions and Behaviours and Leadership Development in IiP Member Organisations

Prof. Sandra Watson and Dr Lois Farquharson continue their research on key leadership actions and behaviours in evidence within Investors in People (IiP) member organisations throughout Scotland.

The recent survey results show that, in a challenging climate, there has been an emphasis on strong strategic and visionary leadership which results in a focus on organisational goals which are logically and factually communicated.  Leaders are also focusing on morality and integrity in order to foster consistent and fair treatment of employees.  The importance of employee involvement in a collective environment has also come to the fore with resources allocated to learning and development on the job.  However, organisations are not comfortable with risk or experimentation when encouraging learning and development on the job.  Finally, there is a high level of emphasis being placed on employee well-being.

An additional survey has now been completed which considers the leadership development activites of IiP member organisations.  Initial results show a movement towards heavy focus on development interventions which assist in the delivery of business strategy.  Therefore, internal development activites are most common, with the expectation of a more relevant and effective transfer to organisational practice.

Further details on the findings can be seen in future publications.
