Last night the University was awarded the Partnership award at the dazzling Herald Higher Education Awards ceremony.
The award was won in acknowledgement of our project with the Scottish Prison Service and Fife College, which was led by Dr Anne Schwan and looks at the significance of literacy in prisons and benefits prisoners who receive one-to-one tuition from student volunteers.
We were also shortlisted for the Student Support Team of the Year award for Confident futures, with both of these acknowledgements showing how we are clearly building our academic reputation and delivering an excellent personalised student experience.
Assistant Principal for Student Experience, Sandra Cairncross, said: "I was delighted that we were shortlisted in two categories and am even more delighted that our partnership with Scottish Prison Service and Fife College won the Partnership Award. This is an exciting initiative whereby students on our English degree volunteer at HMP Edinburgh working with prisoners to develop literacy skills.
"Both our students and the prisoners they are working with benefit from this collaboration through developing a range of transferable skills. We are looking to develop this partnership further through involving students on other courses."
