Full Story

Edinburgh Napier’s Professor Martin Tangney was a guest speaker at the prestigious Advanced Biotechnology Leadership Conference in Washington DC.

The annual conference brings together key figures in the bioeconomy, as well as senior representatives from a range of organisations, including the economic espionage division of the FBI.

Prof Tangney, Director of the Biofuel Research Centre, was invited to discuss his ground-breaking work in converting the residues of the whisky industry into advanced sustainable biofuel.

He was also invited to the Irish Embassy to meet with the Irish Ambassador to the US, Anne Anderson.

Last year, Martin was instrumental in establishing the Irish Business Network Scotland (IBNS) to foster innovation and business relationships between Ireland and Scotland.

He said: “The invitation to address the ABLC reflects the tremendous international reputation of our biotechnology work at Edinburgh Napier University. It was also an honour to meet with the Ambassador at a time when the University continues to strengthen its reputation and influence in the US.”
