Title
School pupils get a taste of university life

Summary
Youngsters visit all three campuses as part of IntoUniversity project

Full Story

School pupils from deprived areas have been given a taste of the outstanding learning facilities at Edinburgh Napier.

The 46-strong group – from Leeds and two schools in the Fife towns of Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly – sampled life on all three campuses over a three-day period.

The 11-13 year olds, who were here as part of a joint venture with the IntoUniversity charity, were introduced to the facilities at Merchiston’s Music School and journalism suite, and also learned about 3D printing and robotics.

At Sighthill, they visited the clinical skills centre and took part in sports and exercise science activities, and they also enjoyed a lecture and question and answer session at Craiglockhart’s Lindsay Stewart Theatre.

During their visit, the pupils stayed at our Bainfield student accommodation and used the canteen facilities on each campus.

They also met representatives of ENSA, who highlighted the various clubs and societies on offer at the university, and enjoyed some of the sights of Edinburgh city centre, including the National Museum of Scotland.

The university is firmly committed to widening access to higher education, while IntoUniversity provide a programme of support which helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their full potential by gaining a university place or fulfilling other ambitions.
