Video Streaming Service
Please note: Where possible staff are advised to use the *new* Online Video Service.
The old Video Streaming Service should only be used when the Online Video Service is unsuitable e.g. if you require a higher resolution video.
Registering for the Video Streaming Service
If you wish to apply you must request an application form via the IT Support Desk.
Following your successful registration you will be allocated 300MB of space and will receive an email explaining how to map a drive letter on your PC to allow you to upload files.
Disk space is charged at £25 on an annual basis (for details of charges to increase this folder size please contact the IT Support Desk). At the end of each rolling year you will have to re-subscribe to this service. Failure to do so would mean your service space being re-allocated and videos removed.
Please note: You should not upload recordings from TV broadcasts or catch-up services, because the University’s Educational Recording Agency (ERA) recording license does not currently permit any dissemination off-campus. More information is available on the Library intranet pages.
Broadcasting your Videos
The videos are broadcast through “Real Player” and in order to play the videos they will have to be in rm (real media) format.
There is a lot of “third party” software available on the Internet to convert videos to this format, but the tool available for Edinburgh Napier University staff members is Real Producer 11 Plus.
User Guides
The following User guides have been produced to help you convert your files and to create links to your uploaded videos:
