The PDT system at Edinburgh Napier is based upon the ‘Entitlement Model’ which highlights a number of privileges students are entitled to access through their named PDT. The aim of these guidelines is to help provide an improved and more consistent approach to the PDT system and thus enhance the student experience. This document is to be read in conjunction with the Guidance for Students. 
 
 
 
  • Be a consistent point of contact
  • Actively engage with individual students to achieve their desired learning outcomes
  •  

     

  • Students on most taught programmes are to be allocated a PDT
  • PDT appointments should be arranged – at least twice per year
  • Appointments can be made in a variety of formats
  • Proactively follow up student absence
  • Discuss and provide a reference
  •  

     
  • Offer appropriate guidance whilst fostering the development of students’ independent learning strategies
  • Respect confidentiality
  • Review academic progress and support personal/professional development planning
  •  

     

  • Be familiar with the supportive systems within the University
  • Signposting services for individual support as/when necessary
