To coincide with Go Green Week in February 2016 we held a Sustainability Fairs at Craiglockhart, Merchiston and Sighthill. The fairs were an opportunity for staff and students to talk to guest organisations about volunteering opportunities, learn about upcoming events and find out about each of their specialities. The Fair, as other events, was widely advertised and open to all members of the University community. The following organisations attended and provide useful information all year round:
The City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) Waste Team. The CEC are responsible for the collection of waste from our student accommodation sites and your home (well, if you live in Edinburgh!). The team promote the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste throughout the city.
Home Energy Scotland. Provide free and impartial advice on reducing energy consumption at home.
Love Food Hate Waste. Provide a range of resources to help reduce food waste.
New Caledonian Woodlands. A social enterprise and a charity offering a range of training and volunteering opportunities They also make and sell their own products from fruits which would otherwise have been disposed of.
RSPB. The work of the RSPB mainly focuses on birds, as well as the impact of climate change on wildlife.
Sustrans. A charitable organisation focusing on supporting and the promotion of active travel.
Water of Leith Conservation Trust. The Trust work to conserve and enhance the Water of Leith, its heritage and wildlife. Working with volunteers and community groups the Trust promotes education and recreation through their Visitors Centre on Lanark Road.
The Environmental Sustainability Team from Edinburgh Napier also attended to showcase historic and ongoing work including future plans.
