Sighthill Travel Options

The campus address is 9 Sighthill Court, Edinburgh, EH11 4BN.  For public transport and active travel options at and around the campus, download our Sighthill Travel Map.  Read below for more information and hyperlinks to useful organisations covering each more of travel listed below.  For guidance on travelling between all Edinburgh Napier campuses download our intercampus travel document.

Interest free loans are available for staff to buy annual rail and annual First Bus passes.  Lothian Buses monthly direct debit is the cheapest option for their services.  Contact Jamie Pearson for more information.

Cycling and Walking

The City of Edinburgh Council have created cycling and walking maps covering the entire city.  Merchiston is covered by the South West map.  SPOKES also produce excellent maps highlighting all off road routes, and a great deal more information throughout Edinburgh.  The University has a number of maps to give away to staff and students (thanks to a grant from SEStran).  Contact Jamie Pearson if you would like one.  The CycleStreets website can also help you plan your journey by bicycle or foot, with an option to find quieter routes.

There are 150 bicycle spaces at Sighthill.  100 within covered and secure areas and 50 uncovered.  You will need your staff card or matriculation card to access the storage areas.  Shower facilities for all cyclists, joggers and walkers are available for free at the [EN]GAGE sports centre.  Lockers are available in the main building, along zero level and first floor corridors of D block (you need a £1 coin to release the key).  There is CCTV throughout the site.

Bus, Tram and Train

Use the Traveline Scotland website to help you plan your journey.  Use the My Bus Tracker service (search for EH11 4BN) to view the next Lothian Buses services around the campus.  Sighthill is 0.4 miles from the closest Edinburgh Trams stop at Bankhead, integrated bus and tram options are available throughout the city (use the Traveline Scotland website).   Smart phone applications are also available, search for 'Edinburgh Travel' through your app store provider.  Please note that Lothian Buses, except for the Lothian Buses 100 service do not provide change.  All travel, except for Lothian Buses 100 and Edinburgh Trams journeys ending at Edinburgh Airport are charged at £1.50 for a single, £4.00 for a day ticket.  Monthly direct debit options are available.

Edinburgh Park Train Station is 1.0 miles from Sighthill.  Haymarket Train Station is 5.2 miles and Waverley Train Station is 6.4 miles.  Edinburgh Park Train Station is a short distance from our Sighthill campus but the Lothian Buses 2 and Edinburgh Trams services link the campus to Edinburgh Park Train Station, both one stop away.  For journey times and more information on integrated travel visit the Traveline Scotland website.

City Car Club and Private Vehicles

The University is a member of the City Car Club.  The Club has 150 vehicles within the city.  Charged per hour and per mile, use of a City Car Club vehicle is perfect for short-term use.  For a discount membership code (for both business and personal use), contact Jamie Pearson, Environmental Sustainability Manager.

You must have a permit to park your car at any Edinburgh Napier campus.  All information relating to parking permits, including cost and exemptions can be found within the Parking Policy on the Security Team intranet pages.  Visitors must be pre-booked (there are visitors spaces all campuses except for Merchiston).  Visit the Traffic Scotland website or follow @edintravel on Twitter for information on road works and congestion.

For car share opportunities visit the Tripshare Edinburgh website.  As an incentive, car share permits for all campuses are reduced at a reduced cost.  Visit the Parking Policy on the Security Team intranet pages.

Staff, students and visitors are kindly encouraged to consider and respect our neighbours around all Edinburgh Napier accommodation sites, campuses and offices and park sensibly and safely.
