Blogging on Exams Improvement… 2 Years On

Back in 2014 Andrew and Steve worked with the Exams team in Student and Academic Services to help them improve how exams worked. Back then we produced a cartoon case study, which was lots of fun, and enabled us to share the story about what we had done internally and externally.

However, it’s always a worry that after the initial frothy fun of improvement work that the benefits won’t be sustained. So now, a couple of years later, we returned to the topic to see if the difference had been sustained, and… as to make things a bit more challenging… we agreed to publish our results on the Efficiency Exchange!

The Efficiency Exchange (EfEx) is a platform provided by Universities UK and Jisc for discovering and sharing knowledge relating to efficiency and effectiveness in higher education, and pulls together best practice and advice from across the sector. Writing for the EfEx was actually not that bad, it’s a blog so no need to be too academic-ey in language, which helped.

Actually, I’d encourage anyone to give it a go, if you’ve got a good story to tell about how we’ve improved something. Maybe something to think about at the end of a project or if you’ve come across something particularly impactful you’d like to shout about?

Luckily, when it came to our article, the team had continued to maintain the new way of working, and had actually made some further improvements (savings in the use of space, the number of materials produced etc).

I won’t tell you any more (spoilers)… you’ll have to go read the article itself! Oh, and if you’d like more information, drop Steve an email on s.yorkstone@napier.ac.uk
