Dr Gerald Webber

BA(Hons) D.Phil MBA MCMI FAUAGerry Webber

Gerry was educated at Selhurst Grammar School, Croydon (1970-1976) and the University of Wales. His first degree was in Government and Political Theory (1st Class 1981). He then went on to complete a D.Phil at Jesus College, Oxford and Nuffield College, Oxford, with his Subject of study being The Right Wing in Britain, 1918-1940. Gerry has an MBA from the Open University.

 

He has worked previously at the University of Edinburgh as Director of Planning, and at the University of Newcastle Upon-Tyne in Research and Faculty Management. He served as Convenor of the Scottish Universities Secretaries' Group from 2009 to 2013 and is currently Deputy Chair of the UK Executive Committee of the Association of Heads of University Administration (AHUA). In addition, he is a governor of Fife College and a member of the APUC (Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges) Board of Management.

 

Gerry is responsible for providing support to the University Court and all of its committees, and for managing Governance and Planning Services, Information Services and Property & Facilities Services. This includes overall responsibility for capital development, estates management and a number of trading activities. At present, he is directly responsible to the Principal for the management of more than 400 staff with an annual budget of approximately £17m, including trading services.

Remit

As University Secretary Gerry is currently responsible for Corporate Governance, Facilities Management, Estates and Capital Development, the IT infrastructure and Learning Information Services. Dr Webber is also the University Safety Officer; Home Office Certificate Holder; Director and Company Secretary of NUVL (the University’s trading company); Trustee of the University's Development Trust; Chair of the University’s Information Systems Development Committee; Chair of the Infrastructure Development Group; and Chair of the Risk & Resilience and Audit Monitoring Committee.

 

Current Projects

Development of Estates Strategy 2015-2025, Website Redevelopment Project, eServices and Appointment of University Chancellor.
