Welcome and Induction
The International support team have developed a welcome service at Edinburgh Airport at the start of each semester. We work closely with other Universities and Colleges in and around Edinburgh to offer a joint welcome service (Scottish Universities Welcome Service) which meets and greets students on their arrival in Edinburgh. In addition the Edinburgh Napier University Welcome Team usually meet new students in the Domestic Arrivals hall at the airport. The Edinburgh Napier Direct Service is free of charge for all new international/EU students arriving before the start of each new trimester. This service will be available from the airport from the time of the first flight to the last flight of the day arriving at Edinburgh Airport on dates which will be confirmed closer to September. All students wishing to use this service must register on the Edinburgh Napier Direct website.
For students arriving outwith the welcome dates (which are published on the website www.napier.ac.uk/international/comingtotheuk), this service is still available but students will be charged. Edinburgh Napier Direct work alongside the Scottish Universities Welcome Service at Edinburgh Airport.
Immigration Advice
The International support team and the Admissions teams work closely together to provide immigration advice to new and continuing students at Edinburgh Napier University.
Students who require to extend their visa are subject to very strict immigration regulations since the introduction and development of the Points Based Immigration System. It is extremely important that students are given the correct advice therefore we encourage other staff to refer students with immigration questions or concerns to the International Support team in the first instance.
The team offer one to one appointments with students, workshops and advice sessions to ensure that students know their responsibilities as a Tier 4 visa holder. We also operate a scheme in conjunction with the UK Border Agency (UKBA) which allows us to send visa extension applications directly to a dedicated team within UKBA. This scheme is invaluable and we encourage every student to use this free service.
More detailed information is currently being developed at www.napier.ac.uk/international/immigration however please contact the team with any questions.
