Counselling Information for Staff

This page provides information for colleagues who either are concerned about a student or their own wellbeing.

I am a member of staff concerned about a student

In the first instance staff can encourage the student to contact either counselling@napier.ac.uk or mentalhealthadviser@napier.ac.uk in order to arrange an appointment. If the student is in distress or for more information you can review our Mental Health Policy.

If you are unsure about who to refer to, have an urgent enquiry, or have any other questions or concerns, please contact us:

Andrew Watson (Student Wellbeing Assistant) a.watson@napier.ac.uk (0131) 455 2459

Angus Mackenzie (Mental Health Adviser) a.mackenzie@napier.ac.uk (0131) 455 2928

Leah MacGilp (Mental Health Adviser) l.macgilp@napier.ac.uk (0131) 455 2967

I am a member of staff and would like to talk to someone about my own wellbeing

Human Resources have an Employee Assistance Programme called Workplace Options in place for staff across the university. You can find this information here:

Workplace Options

Please note: The Counselling and Mental Wellbeing team are not affiliated with Workplace Options. Any feedback about the service should be directed to Human Resources. Students who are also a member of staff at Edinburgh Napier can utilise the Counselling and Mental Wellbeing service as normal.

Student Mental Health Policy

Edinburgh Napier University is committed to creating an inclusive environment for students from all backgrounds. As a University that seeks to open Higher Education to all those who can benefit from it, we are aware that many students are likely to have either experienced or will experience mental distress at times. The Edinburgh Napier University Student Mental Health Policy aims to create a context and culture in the University which ensures that students experiencing mental health difficulties receive the appropriate support. The Mental Health Policy has recently been augmented with a Mental Health Case Conference Protocol for Students to address situations were a student requires co-ordinated cross-university support.
