Dr Gerald Webber
BA(Hons) D.Phil MBA MCMI AUA (Fellow)
Dr Webber was educated at Selhurst Grammar School, Croydon (1970-1976) and the University of Wales. His first degree was in Government and Political Theory (1st Class 1981). Dr Webber went on to complete a D.Phil at Jesus College, Oxford and Nuffield College, Oxford, with his Subject of study being The Right Wing in Britain, 1918-1940.
Dr Webber has also gained an MBA from Open University.
The University Secretary is responsible for providing support to the University Court and all of its committees, and for managing Governance Services, Information Sevices and Property & Facilities Services. This includes overall responsibility for capital development, estates management and a number of trading activities.
At present, he is directly responsible to the Principal for the management of more than 400 staff with an annual budget of approximately £17m, including trading services.
Additional responsibilities include acting as the University Safety Officer, chairing the University’s Risk Management Group, the Information Systems Development Committee and Infrastructure Development Committee, serving as a Director and the Company Secretary for Napier University Ventures Limited (the University’s commercial trading company), and being a trustee of the Napier University Development Trust.
He is also Chairman of the University’s Joint Consultative Committee, which includes representatives of all the recognised Trades Unions.
