Office of the Vice Principal (Academic)

Central leadership and support for academic and for research strategy and practice are vital to achieving and delivering the University's mission. The learning experience of our students and the ways in which we support our staff to develop their academic practice have long been at the heart of the University, and the Office of the Vice Principal (Academic) provides the strategic leadership for teaching excellence at Edinburgh Napier. Our continuing strength in research-teaching linkages, the creation of a rich, research informed teaching and learning environment as well as our research and work in knowledge exchange are similarly strategically led by the OVP (Academic).

An outstanding learning environment and culture is derived from excellent staff actively engaged and effectively supported in developing academic practice and in innovating and enhancing the student learning experience. In leading development, the OVP (Academic) is at the centre of that support and continuing drive for academic excellence at Edinburgh Napier University. The OVP (Academic) seeks to draw on scholarship and research to enhance the learning experience of all our students.

The OVP (Academic) is informed by the external policy environment and represents the University on a wide range of SFC, Universities Scotland and QAA committees.
