Title
Students as colleagues!

Description

‘Students as Colleagues’ is an innovative project that puts students at the heart of teaching enhancement by asking them to review teaching practice.

Created by the Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement, the initiative sees students learn to become professional reviewers of teaching practice and work with volunteer staff partners from a different discipline. Over one trimester, participants will evaluate the content of a module and teaching practice and discover new ways of looking at academic teaching.

What’s in it for staff?
Participants say it’s hugely useful to get a ‘student-eye’ perspective on your module and teaching that is insightful, independent and collegial. It helps with professional development, deepening your skills as a teacher.

What’s in it for students?
It offers students an opportunity for formal training in evaluation, focus groups, feedback and communication skills, giving them an insight into the daily business of higher education. Working directly with a paired staff member from a different discipline, they observe lectures and workshops and provide constructive and professional written and spoken feedback – all skills that look great on a CV.

Want to take part? For more information, email studentsascolleagues@napier.ac.uk by Wednesday, 17 October.
