Skype for Business is being replaced by MS Teams

Skype for Business is being replaced by MS Teams and will be withdrawn from service on 31 July by Microsoft.

The majority of staff members no longer use Skype for Business and Information Services have already emailed anyone who has logged in to the platform in the last two months.

On MS Teams you can do everything you could do on Skype for Business and more – it brings together chat, online meetings, calling and file management into one interface. Further information about MS Teams can be found on the MS Teams staff intranet page.

As we approach the Skype for Business withdrawal date, you may receive email notifications from Microsoft. If you log in to Skype for Business you will see a banner on the top of your Skype for Business window. From 31 July, you will no longer be able to log into your Skype for Business account:

  • Your past conversations, calls, and voicemails can be viewed from your Conversation History folder in Outlook
  • Your Skype for Business contacts will be available in Teams under the Calls tab
  • Your Skype for Business meetings can be accessed from your Outlook calendar or from the Meetings tab in Teams
  • You can still join and host your existing Skype for Business meetings, but all new meetings will be scheduled in Teams

Further information from Microsoft is available on the Microsoft website.
