Full Story

Edinburgh Napier welcomed representatives from America, Japan, Brazil, Australia and more to the University’s Merchiston campus from 5-8 July to discuss new approaches to challenging Robert Louis Stevenson’s work.

Leading the International Robert Louis Stevenson Conference 2017 was Professor Linda Dryden, Director of the Centre for Literature and Writing (CLAW) at Edinburgh Napier University.

Linda said: "[The conference] was a resounding success and Louise Welsh gave an elegant and inspiring talk as the closing plenary for the conference. I would say that it was a fitting tribute to one of Edinburgh's most famous sons.

"The delegates were thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate Stevenson at Edinburgh Napier and to visit his house on Heriot Row."

Linda Dryden manages the Robert Louis Stevenson website, and is co-Editor of the Journal of Stevenson Studies. She also plays a leading role in Robert Louis Stevenson Day - an annual week of events celebrating the writer’s connection to Edinburgh. Find out more here.
