Full Story

A selection of your Edinburgh Napier colleagues are performing at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe – here’s who’s taking part, when and where, and how you can get tickets to see them…

Edinburgh Skeptics
The Edinburgh Skeptics Society was founded in 2009 to promote Science, Reason and Critical Thinking. Speakers at their Skeptic on the Fringe shows include prominent academics, scientists and other experts, including two of our own colleagues:

  • 10 August - Michael Smyth - ‘Welcome to the Algorithmic Age – from life between buildings to life between systems’
  • 11 August - Jennifer Murray - ‘Predictably Unpredictable: Violence Risk Assessment’
  • Events start at 7.30pm in Venue 156, the Banshee Labyrinth in Niddry Street. These events are free and non-ticketed – entry is first-come-first-served basis and a donation to help cover costs is appreciated.  The venue is strictly over-18 and access is via a narrow staircase.

Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas
The Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas is an informal platform for academics and researchers to engage with the public on an array of topics. Renowned for its extravagant displays and outlandish performances, the Edinburgh Fringe provides the ideal setting to discuss hidden and controversial research with an audience who may not usually come into contact with it. Here’s who is ‘performing’ from Edinburgh Napier:

  • 3 August - Kat Rezai - ‘What Does Sex Sell?’
  • 5 August - Anna Schneider ‘Who Do You Want to Wipe Your Bum?’
  • 17 August - Faye Skelton ‘Suspect Confessions’
  • 21 August - Fiona McQueen ‘Big Boys Don’t Cry’
  • 21 August Richard Kyle ‘Obesity Bankrupted Our NHS’ (at the Book Festival’s Unbound event)

The Cabaret is at Venue 7, the New Town Theatre, located at 96 George Street. Unfortunately, the New Town Theatre is not fully physically accessible – there are eight steps up to the foyer from the street. There is accessible parking available nearby and assistance dogs are permitted.
