Full Story

To celebrate the 11th Ada Lovelace day, Edinburgh Napier University and EQUATE Scotland are delighted to host Sheila Lauchlan, self-employed Engineer and Director of Edinburgh-based consultancy, Perfect Dimensions Ltd.

Sheila will pose the question “what does a modern engineer look like?” and share her journey and experiences to date, including her role as the 154th and first-ever female President of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM).

In May last year, Sheila received the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Award from Andrea Nolan at a private reception at Edinburgh Napier. She was also shortlisted in the category of “Engineer of the Year” at the 2019 Gas Industry Awards.

A former Chairperson for the Scottish Section of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers, she remains an active member of the section’s Management Committee. Sheila is Vice Chair of the Institution's Membership Committee and sits on several other engineering committees and two technical panels. She is an Incorporated Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution.

Sheila is a STEM Ambassador and volunteers to promote engineering in schools and has twice judged the Solutions for the Planet competition.
