A
group of Edinburgh Napier design, photography and creative advertising students
have shone brightly at an awards ceremony that aims to inspire creatives to
apply their talents to socially valuable projects.
At
an online ceremony last night, Edinburgh Napier students Jack Brodie, Euan
Reith, Daniel Lockhart, Lois McShane, Tymon Grobelski, Shahabedin Zeini Aslani,
Hamid Mozaffar, Reyhaneh Mozaffar and Youmna Hazzaa all took home a prize at
the Creative Conscience Awards.
The
Creative Conscience Awards recognise creative work and projects that promote
socially valuable, human centred design. Winning projects enable and inspire
people to change their lives and the lives of those around them for the better.
Creative
Advertising student Jack Brodie took home a gold award for his innovative
poster campaign that look at supporting parents and siblings who are caring for
someone diagnosed with cancer.
Jack,
along with fellow student Youmna Hazzaa, also took home a silver award for their
conceptual project with Nike aimed at reducing knife crime in London.
Lois McShane and Euan Reith – both final year Graphic Design students –
took home silver awards for their work. Lois’ project focused on the work of
the NHS and some of the issues it is currently facing.
Euan’s
project explored the dangers of capitalism and neoliberalism by presenting a
future where the splendour and value of oil is promoted to depict a mandatory
lifestyle of beauty and excess.
Also
taking home a gold and silver award respectively were Product Design
students Daniel Lockhart and Tymon Grobelski.
Daniel’s
project – Tattie Toys – saw him create a bioplastic fossil making kit for kids
using the starch from old potatoes. Tymon’s project looked to question
fast-fashion alongside reducing textile waste through decomposition.
Interior
and Spatial Design students Shahabedin Zeini Aslani, Hamid Mozaffar and Reyhaneh Mozaffar were
recognised with a bronze award for their project that explores the negative
effects of light and sound pollution on nature and birds.
Myrna
MacLeod, Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design, said, “These award wins are the
latest recognition for Edinburgh Napier’s talented design, photography and
creative advertising students.
“This
year’s award wins were even more impressive given that the majority of the
winning work was produced during lockdown by the class of 2020 – we’re just so
delighted for them all.”
