It’s now time for you to agree your 2022-23 performance and personal development objectives with your line manager and add them to HR connect. This should be completed by 30 September 2022.
The My Contribution Process encourages open conversations between managers and team members about performance management which is critical to the success of the University. Everyone should have a set of performance objectives which are SMART and are agreed at the start of the performance year between colleagues and their line managers. This ensures colleagues understand what is expected of them and can be measured to determine performance outcomes at both mid-year and end of year.
The objectives should clearly link back to departmental or school plans as well as the University’s strategic objectives. We want people to be able to reach their full potential at Edinburgh Napier, so we are asking all colleagues to have a career conversation as part of this year’s objective setting. This should include a discussion on personal career aspirations and include the addition of personal development objectives as part of the objective setting process.
What do you need to do?
- Identify core deliverables and priorities by reflecting on the annual plan, the core responsibilities of your role as well as of last year’s objectives which are still ongoing.
- Draft objectives in HR Connect, (you could do this offline first in this template here)
- Meet with your line manager to discuss the objectives and amend where appropriate
- Update the objectives in HR Connect where required and email the final version as a PDF to your line manager

Remember, end of year reviews were due to be completed by 31 July 2022, so get in touch with your manager to discuss scheduling your conversation now if you haven’t already done so.
