World AIDS Day takes place annually on 1 December. The day is
a chance to raise awareness and fight stigma around HIV/AIDS. For example, many
people still don’t know that “for people with HIV, if you have been taking
effective HIV treatment and your viral load has been undetectable for 6 months
or more, it means you cannot pass the virus on through sex. This is called
undetectable=untransmittable (U=U).” (NHS)
The Edinburgh Napier University staff
LGBT+ Network have chosen to support Waverley Care’s fundraising for World
AIDs Day on 1 December 2022.
Waverley Care is
a great charity working to support people affected by HIV and Hepatitis C, with
Support Groups, one-to-one mentoring, social outings, education sessions,
workshops and more, helping them to live full and healthy lives.
To show your support for people living with HIV/AIDS and to
raise awareness of U=U, we will have fundraising donation boxes and red ribbons
available at each campus iPoint. Just make a donation and take a ribbon. You
don’t need to ask permission. If you grab the last ribbon, just email lgbt@napier.ac.uk to let us know and we’ll
get Waverley Care to restock us. Let’s make them familiar with visiting us!
If you don’t have cash, you can donate by text message. Text
ENWAD to 70470 to donate £3 to Waverley Care. Texts will cost the donation
amount plus one standard network rate message. You can Gift Aid donations via
text too. All the instructions come through once you donate. Once you have
donated, just go and grab a ribbon. We trust you!
And where better to display your red ribbon than on your
LGBT+ Network Progress Pride flag lanyard! Show your allyship with the hottest
new thing on campus. Email lgbt@napier.ac.uk
to request a lanyard (or multiple for colleagues in your team who want one) and
we’ll get these over to you.
