Title
Pensions Awareness Week

Summary
Knowledge Gives You Choice

Full Story

With a mission to support people through pension engagement and improve communications to help people with the nitty gritty of saving for retirement, the Pensions Awareness campaign has now been running for 10 years.

This year Pensions Awareness Week will be running for five days, starting on Monday 11 September.

The brainchild of Pension Geeks (champions of all that is retirement), Pension Awareness sets up a week of online live shows that break down the most jargon-juiced topics and confusing questions into bite-sized chunks. You can learn more here.

As you'll know, Edinburgh Napier University administers two pension schemes:

Lothian Pension Fund for Research, Technical and Support Staff

As a Local Government Pension Scheme (LPGS) member, our colleagues have access to an invaluable employee benefit scheme: salary sacrifice Shared Cost Additional Voluntary Contributions (Shared Cost AVCs).

Our benefits partners at AVC WISE are running a series of Webinars to provide you with practical and meaningful help so that you can find the confidence to manage and plan for your retirement.

You can book your place on the live Q&A session on 15 September at 12.30pm or one of the Pensions Awareness Week Webinars via AVC Wise; you will need to register your details before you can access the various sessions.

You can also apply for your own Shared Cost AVC plan today by accessing the Shared Cost AVC platform.

Scottish Teachers' Pension Scheme for Academic Staff

Academic colleagues can learn more about pensions and planning for retirement with 'Ready for Retirement' webinars available throughout the year.

They will let you know what to expect when retiring and accessing your pension from SPPA, including information on upcoming changes to the process like the 2015 Remedy. You can find out more and sign up here.

Getting ready for retirement might seem a long way off for some, but understanding how you can best save for the future will help you make the right choices now.

We hope you take this opportunity to understand your pension and join one of the sessions during Pensions Awareness Week or in the near future.
