UCU (University and College Union) members across the UK have taken part in Action Short of Strike (ASOS), specifically a marking and assessment boycott. At Napier, we were not impacted by this action.
We have now been informed that UCU are no longer calling on their members to participate in a marking and assessment boycott with immediate effect, although they are asking members to participate in a five full days of strike action, as detailed below:
Monday 25 September
Tuesday 26 September
Wednesday 27 September
Thursday 28 September
Friday 29 September
We believe that a fair and affordable pay award outcome was achieved so the further strike action by UCU is disappointing, particularly due to the potential impact to our students; however, we fully respects the right of colleagues to take industrial action and accept that such action is not taken lightly.
Recording Strike Action in HR Connect
If you plan to participate in strike action, you need to make us aware. While you are not legally obliged to do so before the action is taken, it would be preferable to let both the University and our students know in advance by recording on HR Connect or informing your line manager. However, if you do not inform us before the event, you are legally obliged to inform us on your first day back at work and record this on HR Connect following each day of strike action.
This is to ensure we have an accurate record of all colleagues taking strike action and also so the relevant pay deductions can be made.
The following guides hold information relating to what you should do during this period. Please read prior to the planned strike action taking place.
