The
Business School’s Professor of International Management, Maura Sheehan, is
inviting colleagues to contribute to two special issues of the International
Review of Applied Economics that will focus on Covid-19. Contributions from
across a variety of academic disciplines and Schools are especially encouraged.
The
first, entitled “The Political Economy of Covid-19”, will examine scenarios for
recovery and resilience of economies and societies post-pandemic. Contributions
that examine these issues in the context of developing and emerging economies
and upon vulnerable and disadvantaged groups are particularly welcome. The
magnitude of the crisis demonstrates the need for very different governmental
responses compared to the laissez fair, austerity policies common since the
1980s, especially in the UK and US. The deadline for submission is 10 August
2020.
The
second will examine the lessons and opportunities that the Covid-19 tragedy
provides for the world to ‘re-set’ and reposition, moving away from
unsustainable inequalities in income and wealth and exposure to the climate
crisis. “Transitioning from the Covid-19 crisis towards a sustainable future”
will focus on re-examining ‘economic growth’ for its own sake, towards the
quality of life for individuals and societies, with a need for economic
activities to be environmentally sustainable. The deadline for submission is
also 10 August 2020.
All
submissions will be peer reviewed rapidly. Maura said, “I am pleased to be
co-editing these two special issues and would welcome the opportunity to work
with colleagues to develop their ideas and research into manuscripts. It’s also
intended they’ll be published as a book moving forward. Please contact me to
discuss.”
