Title
Andrea presents Vice Chancellor’s Achievement Awards

Summary
Two current students and two alumni recognised for contributions to public and academic life

Full Story

This month, Edinburgh Napier’s Principal and Vice Chancellor Andrea Nolan presented awards to two current students and two alumni to recognise their contributions to public and academic life over the past year, and to celebrate them as ambassadors for the University.

The Vice Chancellor’s Achievement Awards was also an opportunity to thank many of the generous donors that provide scholarships and grants for our students.

The award-winning current students were Niaz Gharavi, a third year PhD student and recipient of the Peter KK Lee PhD Scholarship, and Zoe Wall, a fourth year BSc (Hons) student in Games Development.

Niaz was recognised for a paper that has been published in a high-impact journal, Construction and Building Materials, and might change the context of British Standards. Zoe was recognised for her outstanding work in public engagement and science, including work with the Edinburgh International Science Festival, the Scottish Women in Science project, and the Dovecot Tapestry Studios.

The alumni who were awarded were Sheila Lauchlan, who graduated in 1993 with a BSc in Industrial Design (Technology), and Chico Pereira, who graduated in 2011 with an MFA in Advanced Film Practice.

In addition to running her own gas engineering consultancy, last year Sheila was elected as the first-ever-female President of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers. Chico is an accomplished documentary filmmaker, and his 2017 feature, Donkeyote, won an array of awards at festivals around the world.
