To celebrate the 10th Ada Lovelace Day, Edinburgh Napier University and EQUATE Scotland are delighted to host Sharon Moore, MBE, Industry Technical Leader for Travel and Transportation IBM UK Ltd.

Sharon is a wonderful role model and is passionate about ensuring equal access to opportunities in IT. She was honoured with an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours 2018 for services to women in technology based industries, and presented with the 'Inspirational Women in Leadership' award at the inaugural Scotland Women in Technology Awards 2017.

Sharon found herself in the Computer Weekly Top 50 Women of Influence in 2016 and 2017. She leads BCSWomen Scotland and is their Deputy Chair across the UK. Sharon was elected as a board member of Scotland Women in Technology in their relaunch earlier this year.

Sharon will be joined by Talat Yaqoob, Project Director, EQUATE Scotland, who will provide an insight into the new recruitment hub and will share with the audience some of the work currently being done to make a difference to women in STEM.

As part of the celebrations, from 5pm, we’ll also be showcasing interactive demonstrations for local school children and youth groups in the foyer of Craiglockhart Campus.

We’ll have interactive demos, robots and programme wearable computers. They’ll be able to make a code-cracking Enigma machine from a cardboard tube and a local off-Internet network with their mobile phone, plus more fun stuff to share our research and let them play with latest technologies. We’ll also have tea-time treats, like snacks and ice cream, to tide them over! All who attend are welcome to attend the Sharon Moore lecture which follows.
