Title
Scotland’s War Tartan launch

Summary
A specially commissioned tartan to commemorate the Scottish military and civilian contribution to the Great War of 1914-1919 will be launched at the University.

Full Story

Scotland's War has specially commissioned the production of a tartan as a means to commemorate the Scottish military and civilian contribution to the Great War of 1914-1919, which will be proudly launched at Edinburgh Napier University on 1 November.

World War One was regarded as the war to end all wars, which claimed the lives of over one hundred thousand Scottish soldiers. The amplification of such horror and destruction unfolding across the channel resonated acutely within communities across Scotland, who witnessed the influx of soldiers returning with life-changing physical and psychological wounds and mourned the loss of their loved ones.

Join us at the launch event at our Craiglockhart campus to hear Professor Yvonne McEwen, Project Director of Scotland’s War, describe the significance of the colours which feature on the tartan, as well as the charity’s work with the Scottish public and the Scottish diaspora community to research and tell the story of Scotland's contribution to the Great War.

Hamish Carruthers, designer of The Scotland’s War tartan, will also provide a fascinating insight into the design and production processes behind the making of the tartan.

When: Thursday, 1 November – 7pm to 8.30pm
Where: Rivers Suite, Craiglockhart Campus
Cost: Free
