Title
Interested in spending time at one of our partner institutions in Europe?

Summary
Erasmus+ Staff Mobility funding could help towards travel and accommodation costs.

Full Story

The University has received €20,000 from the European Commission co-funded Erasmus+ programme to support academic, Professional Services or other support staff who wish to teach or train at one of Edinburgh Napier’s Erasmus partner institutions across Europe during the 2019/20 academic year.

Typically, academic colleagues teach at an Erasmus+ partner institution for a minimum of eight hours over at least two days, excluding travel time. The time must be contact time with students – conferences and research activity are not eligible.

Professional Services and other support staff can also apply for funding to visit an Erasmus+ partner institution for at least two days to learn from colleagues in a comparable role. As well as sharing, the aim is to bring best practice back to Edinburgh Napier. Training mobility can include observation, attendance at workshops or courses and job shadowing, but not conference attendance.

You should review the list of Erasmus+ partner institutions before applying. Applications are due by 15 March at the latest. Any activities undertaken within this funding scheme must be completed by August 2020.

Interested colleagues should email studyabroad@napier.ac.uk to request a full application pack.

Recent guidance from the British Council has confirmed that our Erasmus Charter will be retained through to the end of the 20/21 funding year so, if you are not in a position to apply in this round we will release another call over the summer for Erasmus+ staff mobility activities to take place next academic year.

Any queries should be directed to the Global Mobility Team.

Please note:

Any staff member who has a contract of employment with the University and who is supported by their Line Manager may apply. Applications are particularly encouraged from colleagues/programmes which have not already benefited from Erasmus+ funding. Funding is limited, and priority will be given to applicants as per the criteria stated on the application form, for example, first-time applicants.

Applicants normally receive up to €275 for flights, plus up to €140-180 per day (depending on destination) for accommodation, food and any local travel during the mobility. The grant is paid on the basis of actual costs and is intended to be a contribution to expenses – if it will not cover all costs, you should discuss with your School or department how the shortfall will be made up.

Before applying, you should discuss the proposed visit with your line manager.

Applications can only be considered if accompanied by written confirmation from the receiving institution that they are willing to host the applicant for the duration stated in the application. If you wish to establish a link for a new subject area at an existing partner, or with a new institution, please contact the Global Mobility Team for advice.

Staff mobility is not solely intended to be for the benefit or career development of the individual member of staff, but is expected to contribute to the overall priorities of Erasmus+, the EU Agenda for Modernisation of Higher Education and Edinburgh Napier University’s Strategy.

Additional grants are available for staff with special needs/disability who wish to undertake an Erasmus+ staff mobility, and where participation would not be possible without extra financial support. Please contact the Global Mobility Team for more information.
