A NASA high
flyer will reflect on her career and professional experiences at a three-day
online event for women students in STEM this week.
Equate Scotland, based at Edinburgh
Napier, have reached for the stars and invited Sarah Murray to deliver the
keynote at this year’s Equate Student Festival.
Sarah,
the Project and Technical Lead in NASA’s Orion Program Vehicle Integration
Office, will speak from 2-3pm on Wednesday March 10, one of three days of
events and workshops. Tickets are free and available here.
In
her current role, Sarah works with Alabama-based Space Launch System, Lockheed
Martin in Colorado and European Space Agency in Germany, managing projects and
technical integration across the multiple entities working to build NASA’s next
spacecraft.
The
US army veteran has been with NASA since 1995, and has held various positions
in flight control and astronaut training. After the Space Shuttle
Columbia accident in 2003, she was chosen to lead the Columbia Recovery Office.
She
also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the
University of Texas at El Paso, and has trained in advanced project management
and international negotiations.
Her
keynote address – will focus on her career, her experience in NASA and tackling
inequality in STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths. The session,
which is open to everyone, will also see her take questions from the audience.
The
festival, which runs from Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 March, aims to bring
together women studying STEM to celebrate their passion for their subjects,
connect with inspiring women professionals and enhance career development.
