A
new partnership between Edinburgh Napier and Into
Games is aiming to help students find rewarding careers within the gaming
industry.
The
University has a burgeoning Games Development programme within its School of
Computing and this new partnership – developed by Programme Leader Thomas
Methven and Fiona Forrest-Anderson from our Student Futures team – further
strengthens the School’s ties with industry.
Into
Games is a non-profit organisation that supports individuals to find careers
within the gaming industry. The organisation offers numerous opportunities
throughout the year, works with industry trade body UKIE to run the Video Games
Ambassadors Programme, and also holds an annual Games Career Week which will be
returning in 2022.
Every
bit of funding received by Into Games goes directly back into developing
high-quality careers information, inspiration and opportunities, and making the
gaming sector more diverse.
The
partnership will benefit both Edinburgh Napier students and staff, providing
information, connection and opportunity with the thriving games development
industry in the UK and further afield.
Thomas,
who is the Programme Leader for our BA
(Hons) Games Development programme, said, "My goal is to ensure our
students have as many interesting, diverse, and valuable industry opportunities
as we can possibly cram into their degree. This new partnership, therefore, is
an extremely exciting addition, and one I’ll be delighted to build on and
nurture in the coming years. I have no doubt that it will be instrumental in
helping transform current students into the next generation of ground-breaking game
creators."
Fiona,
Head of Employer Engagement at Edinburgh Napier, added, “The partnership helps
universities build relationships with industry and provides our students with
the highest possible chance of getting a career in games.”
Education
Partnerships Lead at Into Games, Duncan Silvey, said, “We’re hugely excited to
welcome Edinburgh Napier as a Friend of Into Games. Our education partners are
at the forefront of supercharging games education, enriching both staff and
students alike. We want to ensure that relationships between Edinburgh Napier
University, industry professionals and national games studios are built and
nurtured.
“We’re
so excited to be delivering a Careers Session to their students who no doubt
have exciting new ideas to move the industry forward and will be included in
the next generation of games industry professionals.”
