Marketing & Communications manages University News, Announcements and Events on the staff intranet homepage. If you have an item you would like to see included, please read the guidelines below.

University News

The University News section is where we showcase the success of our current staff and students and feature news that is relevance to a wide University audience. For example:

Where a story is awards-related, we would only highlight where an award has been won rather than a shortlisting, unless it was something of international importance such as the Oscars.


University News also contains leadership and Strategy 2020 updates. It can also cover some of the University’s significant corporate events but only where there is a clear news angle, for example a Chancellor Talk or our graduations.


The Announcements section features information which relates to University operations and procedures, such as IT network improvements, drop-in events or temporary closures of facilities. For example:

How to get in touch

If you have a story that you would like to have included and you feel it meets the guidelines, please send it to EdNapierNews@napier.ac.uk.

What we need from you

If you are unsure whether your story has a news angle, there is some useful information here. A good news story relies on the five Ws: what, who, when, where and why? Before sending anything over, make sure you have answered those five questions in your copy. Please also attach at least one image if you have one as these help bring your story to life.


Please note that all content must be accurate, up-to-date and appropriate. It should be Edinburgh Napier related and not used to advertise external companies.

What we will do

We will review your story within three working days and publish it on the intranet as either University News or an Announcement, get in touch with you for more information or let you know if we are unable to publish it and why. We will also try to offer alternatives or further advice. There is only room for three news items on the page and we may have to prioritise if some stories are more time-critical than others.


In some cases, we may feel your story has the potential for wider coverage in the press, in which case we may contact you for further details and to discuss external promotion.


If you require an event listing, please email EdNapierNews@napier.ac.uk with as much detail as possible, including location, date and time, a description of the event and details of how to book a place. Again, these should be Edinburgh Napier-related events.
