Fit to Sit – Extenuating Circumstances
What does ‘Fit to Sit’ mean?
A student who attends, submits or participates in any form of assessment, is declaring him or herself to be in a position to do so and cannot subsequently claim that their performance was adversely affected by extenuating circumstances, thus declaring themselves ‘Fit to Sit’.
Extenuating circumstances regulations
The extenuating circumstances regulations for 2015-16 changed due to:
Work carried out by a cross-University working group identified a number of inconsistencies and issues regarding extensions and extenuating circumstances and highlighted that existing practices were not always effective in terms of their associated bureaucracy, timing and flexibility.
The move to a School-based structure requires Schools to take ownership of EC panels.
To facilitate students taking responsibility for their assessment journey in line with Strategy 2020 and Academic Strategy.
