Cycling and Walking
The City of Edinburgh Council have created walking and cycling maps covering the entire city. Slateford Road is covered by the South map. SPOKES also produce excellent maps highlighting all off road routes, and a great deal more information, throughout Edinburgh. The University has a number of maps to give away to staff and students. Contact Jamie Pearson if you would like one. The CycleStreets website can also help you plan your journey by bicycle or foot, with an option to find quieter routes.
There's space for 100 bicycles on upright racks within the covered storage area at Slateford Road. There's also space for 20 on uncovered sheffield stands next to the Management Suite. There's CCTV throughout the site. Entry to the communal area, where the bikes racks are position, is controlled by fob access.
Bus, Tram and Train
Use the Traveline Scotland website to help you plan your journey. Use the My Bus Tracker service (search for EH11 1FE) to view the next Lothian Buses services around the accommodation site. Slateford Road is 1.1 miles from the Murrayfield Edinburgh Trams stop and 0.9 from the stop at Haymarket Train Station. Smart phone applications are available for real time bus and tram information, search for 'Edinburgh Travel' or 'Transport for Edinburgh' through your app store provider. Please note that Lothian Buses, except for the Lothian Buses 100 service do not provide change. All travel, except for Lothian Buses 100, charged at £1.70 for a single, £4.00 for a day ticket.
Haymarket Train Station is 0.9 miles from the site. Waverley Train Station, 2.0 miles. The Lothian Buses 4 service links Slateford Road directly to Haymarket. Use Traveline Scotland to plan your journey.
Enterprise Car Club and Private Vehicles
The University is a member of the Enterprise Car Club. The Club has a number vehicles within the city. Charged per hour and per mile, use of an Enterprise Car Club vehicle is perfect for short-term use. For a discount membership code, contact Jamie Pearson, Environmental Sustainability Manager.
There's no parking available at Slateford Road, other than for blue badge holders. Residents are encouraged not to take a private vehicle to Edinburgh. Public transport links are great and the accommodation site is within easy reach of the city centre. The Lothian Buses 300 service connects Slateford Road directly to Edinburgh Airport. The service covers an extensive route, so can take just under one hour. Bainfield is 0.9 miles from Haymarket where the Lothian Buses 100 service and Edinburgh Trams service both stop (journeys on the Lothian Buses 100 service or tram are quicker but would incur connecting to the Lothian Buses 4 service or walking to/from Bainfield for part of the journey, so around the same time).
