Industrial Action

We recognise both EIS and UNISON unions for the purpose of collective bargaining and negotiations regarding pay and associated terms and conditions for staff in Grades 1-7.

Recently, UNISON have balloted their members on strike action in relation to their on-going dispute around the 2022-23 national pay award. On Friday 19 August, UNISON confirmed that their members have voted in favour of strike action and have recently confirmed that their proposed strike action will take place on the following dates:

  • Monday 19 September
  • Tuesday 20 September
  • Wednesday 21 September
  • Monday 3 October
  • Tuesday 4 October.

The University fully respects the right of colleagues to take industrial action and accepts that such action is not taken lightly; we are of course concerned by the potential impact any industrial action will have on our ability to meet our students’ needs.

The below documents will support you in what actions you may need to take, either as a line manager or as someone participating in industrial action.

We are keen to keep colleagues from across the University informed on the progress of discussions surrounding this dispute and we will continue to update this page with the latest information regarding on-going discussions with our recognised trade union partners and any proposed industrial action as necessary.
