Employee Engagement Survey 2011

A key strand of Edinburgh Napier University's 2009-2015 Strategy is to "achieve the highest organisational standards" and to be "an employer of choice". To help us to measure our progress towards those objectives, we ask everyone for feedback through the Employee Engagement Survey. The results of the survey enable us to identify areas where we need to take action to make this a great place to work.  Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide us with valuable feedback.

This is the fourth survey conducted by the University and the questions are essentially the same as last year, enabling us to compare results year on year.

The results

The 2011 employee engagement results, role breakdowns and comments can be accessed using the links below:

It will be clear to you when you review the results that, overall, they are disappointing. At a University level, satisfaction has dropped 1% from 2010 to 59% and is significantly below the 2009 result (71%). Interestingly, academic and support roles have dropped across most dimensions whilst technical and research roles have increased across most dimensions.

When considering the four main themes the results, compared to last year:

  • Leadership (senior management consisting of PEG members, Deans and Directors) has remained flat at 40%
  • Equity has dropped by 2% to 48%
  • Atmosphere and co-operation has dropped by 4% to 53%
  • Personal development has dropped to 50%

This year, we asked two open questions, which you can see the results of by following the links below:

What one change would help make Edinburgh Napier University a better place to work?
What one aspect of your employment do you most value at Edinburgh Napier University?

Where necessary, responses have been edited to remove names and maintain confidentiality.

Deans, Heads of School and Directors of Service have received the results for their specific areas. We have asked them to publish these on local SharePoint sites so they are easily assessable for the whole department to read.
