Employee Wellbeing, Training and Development during COVID-19


The Learning and Development team will be continuing to offer training and support to our line managers and employees during these exceptional circumstances.

Our aim is to utilise what virtual technology is available to continue to provide the necessary skills to assist employees during these changes and to continue to develop in our roles during this time. Feeling supported, connected and productive are important and to help with this we are offering a range of resources.

Connecting virtually

Whatever media you are using to connect withInformation Services are here to help you get online. They have produced an excellent guide to help you achieve this so you can stay connected - click here to access Home Working guide from IS

It can take some time to get connected and get used to the media you are using. Make sure you plan in the time to do this and set expectations as it can feel daunting, but you will get there!


Extending your online and software skills

There is some great advice on our Edinburgh Napier intranet pages for using different tools. Microsoft Teams, Zoom and WebEx are amongst the most common. Click here to access Home Working guide from IS.​


Google can lead you to online links for specific user manuals or if you prefer "how to use" videos. 


If you are a LinkedIn member there are free virtual courses you can work through to develop your skills on Microsoft Team, WebEx, Zoom etc. You can access them here (you need to have a LinkedIn account). They also offer various courses on remote working, time management etc.


We have a number of short, virtual courses that you can connect to including SharePoint, Excel etc. Please contact the Learning and Development Team at learninganddevelopment@napier.ac.uk

Working from home

Your health and wellbeing is important for us and therefore you should try and ensure your working from home arrangements are as comfortable and practical for you as possible. Remember to try and take short regular breaks and keep your body moving.

Edinburgh Napier has a range of resources available to all employees looking for support and help.


Workplace Options - Staff Support and Counselling

Workplace Options is the University's Employee Assistance Programme provider and they offer a free, confidential and independant resource to help employees balance their work, family and personal lives.


Big White Wall

Edinburgh Napier staff and students going through a tough time or struggling with mental health and wellbeing issues can get free online support with Big White Wall. It provides 24/7 peer-to-peer and professional support, plus a range of courses and tools to help people self-manage their wellbeing. This service is safe, anonymous and free.



We are offering free online live mindfulness sessions where you can engage, feel nourished and energised. The session consist of a 35-40 mins mindfulness practice followed by some reflections and discussion. 

Each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 12pm-1pm.

LinkedIn offers free online training on positive change, managing stress and building resilience.


Stay Productive


Managing homeworking and virtual teams

Managers are invited to join us for a small group or 1-1 virtual session on things to think about to keep staff feeling connected, supported and productive when working from home. It covers:

- productive homeworking set up

- planning changes to team work roles and priorities

- using a coaching approach to set expectations

- talk about personal circumstances that need to be accommodated.

These short 30 minutes sessions are to help managers think about the priorities for settling their teams into home working and how to structure working from home for team members.

After the training, if you would like a 1-1 follow up coaching session you can book this with an L&D consultant too.  These coaching sessions are focused on reflective conversations to help you chart a course forward in a very practical way during these uncertain times. ​

Online My Contribution sessions will be offered at the end of April and beginning of May. These sessions will help you use My Contribution to set new objectives (or priorities) to better suit the current working environment and focus on any new skills you will need to develop over the next few months or year.
