Leap into Research

Leap into Research is a three day research skills development event, organised jointly together with the Research and Innovation Office.

Leap into Research 2017 ran from the 28th of February to the 2nd of March in the Glass Room at Merchiston, giving PhD students and researchers the chance to learn more about different research skills, as well as meet other researchers and take part in interactive sessions and panel discussions.

Professor Andrea Nolan, Principal of Edinburgh Napier University, opened the event with some wise words about starting a research career.

There were a wide variety of briefings and workshops, including:

Introduction to the Researcher Development Framework

Conducting a literature review

How to find sources of research funding

Panel discussions about ‘Managing your online presence’ and ‘Bringing it all together – Career planning and where do I go from here?’

Find videos and slides of selected sessions at Leap into Research 2017.

Attendee feedback included:

“I think the range of topics covered was really excellent. Not everything was relevant to me but as I'm close to the start of my PhD it was great to get advice about what to do now, and to hear about potential considerations for the future (e.g. Publishing and funding applications)”

“A chance to meet people at Napier interested in developing as researchers.”

“The various sessions were all relevant so a really strong programme.”
