University Annual Plan 2020/21

Our University Annual Plan 2020/21 shows how the University will continue, over this academic year, to deliver the objectives set out in our strategy.

Our top priorities for this year, as highlighted in the plan, are:

  • Adapt our delivery and operations to respond to the impact of the COVID19 pandemic, while targeting our expertise, resources and collaborative networks towards supporting the wider recovery of the economy and civic society

  • Establish core features and graduate attributes to be delivered through ENU Gold standard for Programme design, piloting with all new programmes along with associated staff development

  • Use the implementation of the new academic calendar to introduce career development activities for academic and professional services staff, and new opportunities for students to engage in ‘inspiring careers’ events

  • Increase external engagement and innovation to support economic recovery, enabled through a new University Innovation Hub, and deliver at least one strategic partnership for each academic school

  • Diversify and maximise our income from different delivery models for online and international, identifying specific programmes, strategic partnerships and delivery models that have the most potential to support growth

  • Grow our research income, with focus on Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and business engagement, and optimise our REF submission

  • Focus development and delivery of flexible, accessible high level skills to support students and the new and existing workforce to adapt to a changing economy through delivery of short innovative courses (credit bearing) and CPD (including individual modules from Global Online portfolio, specialist bespoke courses), and building our graduate apprenticeship portfolio alongside other work based learning models.

  • Develop roadmap, in alignment with the City of Edinburgh plans, to achieve net zero carbon by 2030, and implement year 1 priorities

  • Achieve 90% in the NSS and PTES for teaching with no school below 85% overall satisfaction, through staff engagement in learning and teaching development, peer support, implementation of SMART action plans and responding to student voice

  • Meet our Outcome Agreement targets including widening access and improving retention and increase the conversion rate of Scottish students into the University

  • Build on the positive learnings from lockdown and the momentum to drive change in our working practices; support our BAME community to help shape our culture and practices

  • Reconfigure our estate to ensure high levels of confidence in the safe operation of our campuses, student residences and services for our staff and students
