Values & behaviours
Since I joined Edinburgh Napier University I have spoken to many students and colleagues about what the University means to them and what they expect of the University. This has helped me to understand the journey ahead and has helped to inform the strategic agenda.
Whilst work on the Strategy 2020 and the Corporate plan has defined what we need to deliver I feel it is also important to reflect on how we deliver. Lots of work has been done over the last 18 months through engagement focus groups, and values discussions, to create a statement of our aspirational values. They are aspirational because I recognise, through discussion I have had, that not everyone experiences these in the university all the time.
Our values need to be the glue that binds us together - they express the shared ethos of our university. It will be up to all of us to live up to the values.
As I am sure you have seen they are deliberately split between:
What the University expects - Professional, Innovative, Ambitious and Inclusive
What that means in how we interact with each other – with Respect and Integrity
What that results in – people who are proud, confident, challenged and supported
In the coming weeks and months the University Leadership Team will be considering how we can ensure we live the values across the university and I commit to updating you regularly on our progress.
