Student number planning
Student plans is driven by the strategic ambitions of the University, articulated in Strategy 2020. In terms of student growth, the University is aiming to grow its total student population from 18,000 to 23,000 by 2020. Within this growth, student segments planned to grow by 2020 are:
- Taught Postgraduate students are planned to increase from 3,000 to 3,900;
- Research Postgraduates to grow from 207 to 300;
- International students to grow from 4,590 to 7,770 (includes students taught overseas)
Student planning is performed bottom-up, working with Schools to develop targets that collectively meet the University’s strategic ambitions and financial income targets. The process is carried out on an annual basis with Planning and Business Intelligence working with the Vice Principal to agree high-level targets for the period leading up to 2019/20. The process is important in reviewing the portfolio of subject provision and modes of delivery. Once these high-level targets are agreed, more detailed target-setting work can begin by the Schools to establish the intake and admissions targets for each programme.
